Monitoring Your Eating: Challenge Wrap Up – 018

In this episode 018, we wrap up our month of focusing on all things food and eating!  We discuss how Jenny and I did with the challenge and we talk about some of the gems that Tommy Caldwell shared in Episode 17 that should help people with the more psychological emotional aspects of eating. I’m diggin’ Halloween camping and Jenny is diggin’ a ridiculous, yet hilarious Instagram account.  I’ve got the win this week and it’s related to something that I talked John into and Jenny’s learn is related to losing her meditation streak.

What You’ll Hear (and don’t want to miss!)

1:06: Jenny and I share our experiences over the month of monitoring our food.

5:25: Habits Corner: We discuss adding in some questions associated with what we are eating.  Tommy also gave the advice to sit at the table for all meals including snacks and focus on nothing but the eating.  Tough one for me!  (and I’m assuming for most people)

9:22: What Are You Diggin’?  I’m diggin’ Halloween camping and Jenny is loving the ridiculous and hilarious Instagram account of Gary Janetti.

15:14: You Win or You Learn: I’ve got the win this week and it’s related to John and I joining a 6 week exercise and diet challenge.  Jenny’s learn is related to her losing a very long meditation streak.

18:02: We wrap it up for this week.  Next week, we will be kicking off November with our new habits challenge that is all about: Relationships!! That can mean with your significant other/spouse and also relationships with friends, family, co-workers. Jenny and I are interested to see if there are some habits that we can incorporate into our lives that will help to improve the quality of our relationships with the people around us. We hope that you will tune in and play along with us!

Key Quotes:

“He said to ask these questions without judgement….just curiosity.  He said that most people don’t start the questioning process until after the eating of the high consequence food is over….then comes the ‘why did I do that?  And often guilt and shame. He said that the exercise of questioning as you are consuming will start to help you to make better choices as you learn more about yourself.  Cool!!”  -Peggy discussing what Tommy Caldwell said about being more aware of why you are eating

“It’s all about mindfulness.  I think that it’s so interesting to start to observe yourself in those little moments when you go to eat something or drink something and you get honest with yourself about why you are doing it.  Ultimately, it’s not about whether or not you eat or drink that thing….just be aware of why you’re doing it.  It’s important to go from mindless to mindful about it and reframe the way you consume food.” -Jenny talking increasing mindfulness around eating.
