I am wondering if the shoes you describe are good for shin splints, if they would also help with metatarsal pain and/or plantar fasciitis?  If so, I would be interested in reading it.  I have struggles through the whole rest, ice, stretching, yoga, etc ordeal and have seen many practitioners over the last 3 years…all with no healing.

Hi Ellie,
They may help absolutely. Every case is very different but good shoes is always one of the first steps. For those people where shoes (or in some cases orthotics as well) aren’t the solution, the answer
usually lies in stabilizing the musculature of the core….especially the glutes (the butt muscles) I have lots of articles about this on my blog.
Also, give the Shoes report a read, like I said…It’s a great first step and, it’s absolutely free!

I've been running for 25 years.  I'm experiencing my first injury wich is a shin spint.  I run the Ottawa marathon in 2 weeks and I've been resting for 2 weeks (laste run = 30K).  Should I present myself at the starting line (pain free) and just go!?

Hey Yanick,

It’s great that you haven’t experienced Shin Splints in all those years of running.

I would keep resting and keep stretching (your calves and your hip flexors) and yes….go to the starting line in two weeks.
You have enough experience as a runner and you’ve already put in 30km. You can definitely do it.
Make sure to adjust your goals accordingly though.
Instead of a specific time to finish, you may want to adjust your goal to: Upright and smiling at the finish line.
And…if you are really suffering, remember that there are lots of marathons and if you don’t happen to do this one or finish this one….there are still many more chances. :)

Good luck with it!
Peggy
